What are we about?

The original trigger was the publication (2021) of a research report exploring the lived experiences of hospitality workers in Ireland. That study has since been replicated in Scotland, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and Greece, generating our first bank of comparative data.

What things distinguish us as an Alliance?

  • Critical scholars adopting intellectual activism
  • Co-creating knowledge in an environment of trust (with passion and hopefully some fun!)
  • Global focus (North and South)
  • Both ambitious and pragmatic
  • Seeking innovation and creativity in objectives, interpretation, methodologies, and presentation of outputs
  • Seeking to transform hospitality working conditions by giving voice to all parties
  • Including hospitality givers and receivers
  • Interdisciplinary synergy
  • Impactful-activist-outputs
  • Egalitarian, inclusive and supportive

Steering Committee

Ten of the founding members currently form a Steering Committee that meets regularly to maintain momentum without engaging in excessive bureaucracy. Members of the Alliance are updated on activities after each meeting. Governance of the GHRA is evolving and new members will have the opportunity to shape how we work and to participate in the future. The Alliance has a LinkedIn presence and new members are encouraged to join.

Generating Impact Through Our Research

The Alliance takes a liberal view of impact and aspires to using any and all channels to disseminate the findings of our work.

What do we mean by impact?

  • Impact on polic and practice
  • Impacting discourse
  • Impacting behaviour of all parties
  • Impacting the academy through publications
  • Impacting critical education of students in Higher Education and vocational training
  • Impacting on our own personal and professional development
  • Creating a ripple effect of change by highlighting the good
  • Impact of hospitality findings for other sectors
  • Impact of findings' communication through multi media
  • Impact on creative methodology design
  • Impact in reaching vulnerable voices that are not heard
